Self assessement

When describing how you meet specific criteria, you may structure your examples clearly. Some applicants chose the proven technique of the STAR methodology but IT IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO DO THIS – its is merely a framework to detail your experience and impact.  It is popular methodology as it tends to focus the mind in a consistent manner and tend to be easy for the assessor to analyse.

  • Situation – what was happening
  • Task – what needed to be achieved
  • Action – what you did and why
  • Result – what happened and what you learned

Generally, the panel is interested in what actions you took, why, what impact you made and any lessons learned. Great application answers clearly demonstrate a scenario they were faced with, what they decided to do/or not do, who they considered and what happened as a result of their presence.

Others use a story telling method – this can sometimes lead to lengthy answers and the salient points can be lost.
You may also use bullet points for clarity. This is also an acceptable methodology but do avoid generic statements (e.g. “I am a good communicator”) — show how you communicate effectively and what was the impact made as a result of your communication.

  • Written Work or Supporting Documents (if required)
  • Select recent examples that demonstrate your ability to analyse, reason, or communicate effectively.
  • Keep extracts short, relevant, and free from confidential information.
  • Check formatting and convert files to PDF before uploading.
