The Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland announced the appointment of three new Members. The Honourable Lady Haldane QC joins the Board as a Judicial Member, May Dunsmuir joins as a Judicial Member as the representative for the Scottish Tribunals, whilst Catriona (Cat) Maclean joins as a Legal Member.

Lindsay Montgomery, Chairing Member of the Board said “ I am delighted to be able to welcome our new Members, all of whom will bring a wealth of experience to the Board.

I would also like to acknowledge the substantial contribution of our departing Members, the Honourable Lady Wise QC and the Honourable Lord Minginish QC.  The workload of the Board has increased significantly in the eight years they have been with us and I want to thank them both for their sterling service and commitment over that time.”

Lady Haldane was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Courts in February 2021 having qualified as a solicitor in 1987.  In 1996 she was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2010.  Lady Haldane has previously been appointed as Standing Junior Counsel to the Forestry Commission and Home Office, having also spent time as an ad-hoc advocate depute with the Crown Office.

May Dunsmuir is a qualified solicitor and is President of the Health and Education Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland.  She brings a great deal of experience of Scottish Tribunals having previously been in-house convener with the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland and lead convener for child and adolescent mental health tribunals.

Cat Maclean is the only solicitor to have won “Solicitor of the Year” twice, doing so in 2012 and 2015, having also been shortlisted in 2010.  She was admitted to the Scottish Bar as an Advocate in 1998, spending 10 years at the Bar.  Cat has significant experience in legal recruitment, skills which make her well suited to the work of JABS.
