The Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland (JABS) will shortly be launching competitions seeking to recommend suitably qualified individuals for the following offices:
· Chair of the Parole Board for Scotland;
· Chamber President of the Social Security Chamber of the First-tier Tribunals of Scotland;
· Chamber President of the Local Taxation Chamber of the First-tier Tribunals of Scotland;
· Sheriff Principal for Grampian, Highland and Islands.
All of these roles offer a chance to make a significant contribution to the delivery of justice in Scotland.
Chair of the Parole Board for Scotland
To be eligible to apply for the Office of Chair of the Parole Board for Scotland you must:
· Be a solicitor or advocate of not less than 10 years standing, or
· Be a current or former Senator of the College of Justice, or
· Be a current or former Sheriff Principal, Sheriff or Summary Sheriff.
Chamber Presidents
To be eligible to apply for these roles, you must:
· Have previous engagement in practice for a period of not less than seven years as a Solicitor or Advocate in Scotland; and
· Subsequent engagement in any of the activities listed below:
o Exercising judicial functions in any Court or Tribunal;
o Practice or employment as a lawyer of any kind.
Chamber Presidents are appointed for a period of five years and will be automatically reappointed unless one of the conditions of paragraph 4 of schedule 7 of the Tribunals (Scotland) Act 2014 applies, or the post-holder declines automatic reappointment.
Sheriff Principal
To be eligible to apply for the Office of Sheriff Principal you must, immediately before appointment:
· Hold any other judicial office as set out in Section 14 of the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014, or
· Be legally qualified as either a solicitor or advocate for a period of 10 years
